Biography
「The Blues Guitar Master」−Many
people who watch him playing the guitar
call him so．
In 1971,he formed "The West Road
Blues Band"in Kyoto,and became
the founder of a Japanese blues boom
by having an opening act of OSAKA performance
of B.B.KING. The WRBB's presence is
still left in the history of a Japanese
rock scene.
The guitar- style of Mr.Shiotsugu continues
having a great influence on many musicians．His
wide music characteristics that is not
confined to the blues are nomimated
for one of the reasons.His guitar play
is full of improvisatiomal imagimation:he
has wide knowledge of not only rich
and varied blues guitar tradition but
black music like jazz,soul and funk.
In addition,Mr.Shiotsugu regards rhythm
which plays a significant role in black
music as important and is familiar with
African music.
For his performance supported by deep
feeling for black music ,high evaluation
gathers from the top musicians of internatiomal
stature:these include guitarist and
vocalist B.B.King,who is called now
"The King Of The Blues";and
bassist Paul Jackson,who was one of
Herbie Hancocks' colleagues and played
an important role in forging what is
now known as the modern funk style.The
Pianist Joe Sample ,who was known as
a menber of Cruseiders ,also had a session
with him.
while having many sessions and lives
with various musicians,Mr.Shiotsugu,who
now lives in Kyoto,continues playing
the blues which is roots of himself
and develops it.
Without doubt,Mr.Shiotsugu is one of
great guitarists who continues giving
a great influence to a Japanese blues
scene.
